Privacy Policies
Ocean collects and uses certain reader data to enhance user experience across its platforms and to create new products based on audience needs.
To achieve this, Ocean acts in accordance with the LGPD (General Data Protection Law), No. 13.709/2018, maintaining transparency in its actions.
How does Ocean collect data?
About WhatsApp
Ocean may collect data based on readers’ voluntary subscription to its independent journalism WhatsApp groups.
By joining Ocean’s informational groups (and its projects and products) on WhatsApp, the reader understands that their name, profile photo, phone number, and other information contained there become visible to this journalistic organization and other participants.
To ensure greater control and security in the WhatsApp Community and to avoid spam, Ocean asks any interested user to register via email on this website.
Ocean does not always use this information but reserves the right to do so when deemed necessary to develop or improve its services for readers.
In addition, Ocean notes that if contact, interaction, or any issues arise due to the exposure of users’ phone numbers within WhatsApp groups, responsibility lies with the participants themselves.
Ocean will make every effort to prevent disturbances among participants, but WhatsApp inherently exposes numbers in group chats, and this organization has no control over that feature.
Clearly, Ocean cannot be held liable for improper interactions between group users or for any potential leaks of phone numbers that may occur.
Ocean’s groups are purely informational, with messages usually sent daily and no interaction permitted.
However, groups linked to Ocean projects, such as Pulpo Eleitoral, allow participant interaction. In these cases, the Community Rules apply.
Ocean does not disclose or sell user data to other companies. In practice, Ocean makes little use of reader data but issues this document to protect itself against potential liabilities unrelated to its will.
Example: if a participant’s WhatsApp account is hacked or cloned and a fraudster contacts group members, Ocean is not responsible for that interaction or its consequences.
By voluntarily joining the group, the participant acknowledges and accepts possible occurrences like this, as well as the visibility of their phone number to other members. This relates to WhatsApp itself, not to us.
Ocean also clarifies that these Privacy Terms are listed in the descriptions of all WhatsApp groups managed by this news organization to make its guiding principles public.
